Energy for Alaska
  • Construction of production platform, connecting pipeline and processing plant complete
  • Successful tests and checks
  • Natural gas production planned from end of 2015

Luxembourg, 22 September 2015: Deutsche Oel & Gas S.A. has now completed its production infrastructure in its Kitchen Lights Unit natural gas and crude oil production region in Southern Alaska. The production platform and the own processing plant for natural gas and, in future, crude oil, have been erected on the Kenai Peninsula and connected to the around 22.5 km subsea pipeline.

Some parts of the production platform have already been officially approved. The helipad, for example, has been approved and was commissioned shortly after. Overall, the production platform, designed especially for oil and gas production in Southern Alaska, was constructed as planned and at an impressive speed: The special-purpose ship MS Svenja only took around 35 minutes to install the more than 540-ton production decks. The monopod – the steel leg of the production platform, which stands around 60 metres tall, was already installed in July of this year.

Extensive tests and checks are currently being carried out, so that natural gas production can begin at the end of 2015, as planned. The major project, which represents an investment of more than USD 350 million, is now on the home straight.

“Together with our partners, we have laid the ideal foundations for starting natural gas production at the end of 2015, as planned,” said Kay Rieck, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Deutsche Oel & Gas S.A. “As we have our own production infrastructure, we are very flexible and therefore benefit from the special market conditions in Alaska. This will be a crucial competitive advantage over the coming years.”
