Energy for Alaska

Deutsche Oel & Gas, an oil and gas producer operating in Alaska, has successfully transported its first production platform to the Cook Inlet.

The platform arrived in Kachemak Bay in Alaska on 9 September 2014, after its journey from Seattle. The platform was constructed over the summer in Ingleside (Texas) and was shipped out of Corpus Christi on 4 June 2014, through the Gulf of Mexico and the Panama Canal, to Alaska.

All important components for the platform, the pipeline and the onshore processing plant are now in Alaska. Assembly of the offshore elements will begin next spring. The platform, supported by a monopod, is to be placed over well KLU#3, where commercially recoverable natural gas reserves were discovered in June 2013.

A 16-mile-long subsea connecting pipeline will connect the platform with the onshore processing plant in Nikiski, Alaska. The platform is currently being stored in Port MacKenzie, Alaska. Con-struction of the onshore processing plant in Nikiski began in the summer and is to continue over the winter months.

This infrastructure project is expected to employ over 200 workers and fitters, and up to 35 full-time employees.
